International Jazz Day 2017

Second of Jazz in collaboration with Mark Whitfield is introducing a new concept for celebrating jazz music on the International Jazz Day 2017. For the very first time we will present a simulcast performance between Smalls Jazz Club in New York and the Oslo Concert Hall in Oslo, Norway.

This is part of our continuing effort to promote humanity and togetherness through music by presenting 2 formidable piano trios that will "share" their audiences via streaming simulcast. Davis Whitfield will lead his trio through a program of original music on stage at Smalls Jazz Club NYC on April 30th from 3:30pm - 7pm and Norwegian pianist extraordinaire Espen Berg will do the same with his trio onstage at the Oslo Concert Hall (21:30 - 00:00 Norwegian time).

The trios will appear in opposite venues via simulcast web streaming on large screens on both stages. Davis' set will appear on screen in Oslo, and for all those who log on to the Smalls/Building Bridges Facebook streaming event page from anywhere in the world. Espen's trio will play and have their set appear on screen at Smalls in NYC and online for all those who log on just the same.

We believe that these desperate times absolutely call for extreme solutions in this struggle to bring all the peoples of the world closer together in a celebration of music, life and of our "common individuality" which makes us all beautiful and worthy of love and consideration.

Our inaugural event will also honor the memory of the great pianist and composer Kenny Kirkland, so each trio will offer unique interpretations of a few of his compositions.

Full details for the event are available at our Facebook page: Second of Jazz
