Eyolf Dale’s Wolf Valley
A couple of months ago, I wrote about Eyolf Dale’s newly released album Wolf Valley. Last weekend I had the pleasure of hearing Dale and his octet perform the compositions from this album on the National Jazz Scene in Oslo. Along with him Dale brought André Roligheten on saxophone, Hayden Powell on trumpet, Kristoffer Kompen on trombone, Rob Waring on vibraphone, Adrian Løseth Waade on violin, Per Zanussi on bass and Gard Nilssen on the drums.
Dale’s octet played for a full house this evening, and they surely earned it! The concert was pleasing to the ear from beginning to end. Dale gave all the musicians enough room to explore the different corners of the Wolf Valley landscape. They created a dreamy atmosphere on Victoria, and ensured many highlights throughout the evening.
Towards the end of the concert they jazzed up the mood with the groovy rhythms of The Creek, and to finish off the concert they played the beautiful Silent Ways. It was such a pleasure to watch these guys have fun on stage. Well done!
